LOST WEEKEND// / SG
Lost Weekend was formed in 2011 from a serendipitous encounter in a guitar shop where they discovered a mutual love for 90s music and Tiger beer. An unexpected blend of classic guitar-driven rock and modern dream pop, their sound contains familiar touchstones from Blur, to Beach House, to Black Sabbath.
Some of the band’s key achievements include the release of their eponymous debut album in August 2015. Their debut was described (by Ujikaji Records) as ‘one of the best’ pop albums in Singapore in years. Known for their razor-sharp song writing and memorable melodies, their sound has also been labelled (by the Straits Times) as “a joyous love letter to the genre of indie rock” . The band has played some of Singapore’s largest stages, including Neon Lights 2015 and Baybeats Festival 2014/2016
“As far as pop albums in Singapore go, this is one of the best in years. Lost Weekend’s strengths are in songwriting and delivery. The band’s lyrics about maneuvering through contemporary life are razor sharp and self-reflexive, but their protagonists are never too cynical to keep dreaming”
-Ujikaji Records
“A joyous love letter to the genre of indie rock and a peek into the vagaries of young adult life, Lost Weekend’s self-titled debut is a charmer. 4 out of 5 Stars” - Eddino Abdul Hadi, The Straits Times
“The band’s new album offers stellar material such as Mornings, Red is the Colour, Wild Ones and On A Sunday, tracks that leave memorable traces of melodic bliss counterpointed by thought-provoking lyrical concepts” -Kevin Matthews, Today
Etc/ / // SG
A cut above the rest," according to The Guardian (UK), Etc. plays bittersweet psychopop songs that have earned them enthusiasts around the world. Much to their happy astonishment, NILE RODGERS said he was 'digging on' Etc. in 2011. This was a thrill up there with when the late JOHN PEEL credited Ben Etc's guitar-playing as 'spankingly good' and 'noisy - but not *too* noisy', before Etc went on to gain a place on the BBC's GLOBAL TOP 10 with their single, 'Adolesce'.
In Singapore, the Straits Times has touted Etc as the most literate band playing in the region - which might be nice, except Etc isn't sure what this means exactly. But at least they were once heartily toasted by the country's controversial but-very-nice Miss Universe 2006 contender. Nice. But they've not given up their dayjobs yet.
Other excuses to keep Etc namedropping: positive words from members of Buzzcocks (who they once supported), Blur, Flaming Lips, Fugazi, Galaxie 500, Nirvana, Shonen Knife, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, American Music Club and Force Vomit amongst others.
They might release an album one day. Some folk *like* Etc's

MYSTERY TAPES/ // / KL
Mystery Tapes is the recording and stage name adopted by singer-songwriter and radio deejay Zack Yusof starting back in Jan 2014. What began as a stripped down, singer-songwriter project for the former Free Deserters founder and frontman has now evolved into something with much wider scope involving live drums and guitar. Harvey Chamberlain is the band's regular collaborator on drums.
Describing themselves as playing “folk rock blues with a post punk mindset”, musical touchstones for this project include the intimate four-track recordings of the lo-fi independent set of the early nineties; selected English folk from the sixties; The Wrecking Crew; David Bowie; Neil Young; Gruff Rhys and the field recordings of Alan Lomax among others.
