Publika Jazz has grown into a major event spreading over four different venues within Publika (The Square, Black Box, The Bee and The Social). The festival is acknowledged as the ``largest FREE indoor and outdoor jazz festival in Malaysia" with over 100 musicians and has strong reputation for showcasing many different genres of jazz from all eras performed by established artists as well as upcoming musicians. This year's highlights include Newsound, Fazz, Barry Likumahuwa Project, Shock and Awe! (US, Australia, HK, Malaysia), Nazrin’s Trio, Travis Tan Experiment, Diandra Arjunaidi, New Village Music Lab feat. Rozz, Ryot Jones, Havana Jazz Tumbao (Cuba), Carpio Brothers (Australia, HK), Dani, The Beat Brothers (Taiwan, Singapore), Phunkmob.

:Theatrical, flamboyant, humorous, and passionate musical entertainers inspired by Broadway, Fazz brings forth a good blend of theatrical comedy, vaudeville, cabaret, rock & roll, and even jazz, with a unique persona on stage. Bagging tour experiences in regions of Japan, South Korea, and Singapore with lively exchange of music & Malaysian culture in festivals and live houses; Fazz delivers entertainment through story-telling, fusing theatrical stagecraft with modern-day poetry.

::Newsound
:NewSound is one of the most exciting young jazz fusion bands to come out of Asia. Led by Malaysian jazz pianist John Dip Silas, the band features an array of worldwide talents with the likes of Hor Chee Seng on guitar, Icco Elnoel on bass, Terrence Ling on drums, Hiroyuki Yagi on soprano saxophone, and Scott Murphy on tenor saxophone. The band seeks to bring a "new sound" to music and perform a big variety of their own original compositions and arrangements. Their music is of a high calibre of jazz music so their shows do not disappoint. Come on out and watch them for a performance filled with entertaining and soulful music and a great atmosphere!

::Barry Likumahuwa Project
:Barry Likumahuwa is a talented young bassist owned by Indonesia, with his jazz funk flow. In 2008 he released his first solo album Good Spell and in 2011 he and BLP (Barry Likumahuwa Project) released their second album Synergy Generation . Synergy Generation album is ranked 9th in 20 best album 2011 according to Rolling Stone Indonesia magazine . Then in February 2014 BLP released their second album titled Innerlight , the album collaborated with a row of great Indonesian singers including Indra Aziz , Soulmate, Bayu Risa , Bubu Giri, Ivan Saba & Glenn Fredly . Innerlight album itself had occupied the position of the top 1 download iTunes Indonesia in the first week of the album was released. Shock and Awe! (US, Australia, HK, Malaysia) Drawing inspiration from jazz harmonies combined with World, Ethnic and GrecoNubian rhythms, Shock and Awe is not your typical jazz quartet. Playing a repertoire of all original music, they are known for their high energy sets, intricate rhythms and virtuosic display of musicianship.

::Nazrin’s Trio
: Muhammad Nazrin is a guitarist/arranger from Kuala Lumpur who is known for his work as sideman for singers of various styles in the local scene. Known for his bluesy & R&B flavour, Nazrin also enjoys playing Malay traditional music and dabbles in jazz when the opportunity presents itself. Classically trained during his youth, he taught himself how to play the guitar before he enrolled for classical guitar lessons when he was 11 years old, later graduated from ASWARA with Bachelor of Music (Arranging/Composition). Nazrin’s latest project is a trio playing contemporary music. In this new found project, he tries to draw from his influences not only from blues and jazz, but alternative rock, pop,Malay music and classical as well. With guitar, bass and drums, he’s looking forward to share with KL audience his love for music. Nazrin’s musical influences come from R&B style guitarist in the likes of Paul Jackson Jr., Erick Walls, Jairus Mozee and Eric Krasno, as well as players with distinct/experimental sounds Bill Frisell,Nels Cline,Marc Ribot,not forgetting jazz giants Wes Montgomery, Grant Green and Joe Pass.

::Travis Tan Experiment
:Aspiring bass player Travis Tan will be performing with his experimental band featuring Aina Abdul on vocals, Afiq Aiman on keys, Dean Sim on guitar, and Derrick Seow on drums. This multi-genre experimental music ensemble will be bringing their own take on jazz mixed with contemporary pop music.

::Diandra Arjunaidi
:Diandra Arjunaidi picked up music at a very young age, seen in home videos of her singing to the likes of Boyz2Men at the tender age of five. She eventually picked up the guitar at the age of 15 and began writing songs as a past time. Having graduated with a diploma in Performance & Media from Sunway University, Diandra had always known that her career would go down the creative path. It was in November of ‘09 that she was founded through the power of social media and billed for her first gig and she has done music full time ever since. Since kick-starting her singer-songwriter career, she has accomplished a good amount of success for someone her age.Her first few gigs showed her playing esteemed venues such as No Black Tie and Laundry Bar alongside other notable and prominent names in the industry. In 2012, she debuted her first self-titled album, which featured her chart topping single Angkasa. Having started off mostly singing in English, she now sings both in English and Malay. Influence-wise, she names Indonesian singers such as Raisa, Andira and Kunto Aji as her favourites, as well as Amy Winehouse. Finding comfort in singing light infectious tunes, Diandra says her music is everything ranging from heart-wrenching to uplifting and all in all, relatable.

:The Ee Jeng Trio has been doing the local jazz circuit for 8 years and are one of the few local jazz acts to employ originals in their repertoire. Made up of some of the best jazz musicians in the country; we have John Thomas on drums, Daniel Foong on bass and of course the man himself Ee Jeng on keys.

:The Sudu Garp Trio is Kevin Theseira on bass, Ee Jeng on keys and Zalila Lee on percussion. Just three music fans from different backgrounds coming together for the love of music and a night of swing jazz.

::RyotJones
:RyotJones is an 8 piece funk/soul band which resides in Kuala Lumpur. The band is currently working on their single (Dancing Shoes) and has garnered rave reviews from establishments. The band classifies its sound as festival funk and aims to bring the most energetic stage performances to festivals, venues and events within Malaysia and South East Asia. members include Clifford Tan - Alto Saxophone, Jazmi Jamaluddin - Alto/Tenor Saxophone

::New Village Music Lab feat. Rozz
:New Village Music Lab was formed by Tengku Indra in April 2016. Tengku Indra, who is a pianist was inspired by Postmodern Jukebox, a popular jazz piece who made its name on YouTube. Being a musician who is passionate in jazz and oldies music. Tengku Indra got the idea to implement PMJ’s concept of live recording but more on local evergreen songs.

Initially started as a there piece band. Tengku Indra (Piano), Haniff Mohamed (Double Bass) & Bob Skunjas (Drums). Tengku Indra started to get an idea to rope in more band members in July 2016. This is so that the band will be able to make the music more lively and interesting with the help of additional instruments. as a new band, NVML aims to boost people’s interest in classic and modern jazz music.

The line up of NVML comprises Deo Karmawan (Guitar), Nazrin (Guitar), Jeffry Kamar (Saxophone), Farid Izwan (Saxophone), Farin Irwan (Saxophone), Hafiz Monk (Trumpet), Asyhraff Adnan (Trumpet) and Aisyam Mudden (Trombone). NVML will be joined by singer Rozz whose major influences comprise of an eclectic mix: from the likes of Barbra Streisand, Joan Sutherland and Freddie Mercury to Grace Jones and Diamanda Galas.

Upon completion of high school in Penang, Rozz furthered his education in Theater Studies and International Relations in the United States, after which he eventually arrived at the epicentre of the actor’s domain in New York City where he was featured in many stage productions.

One has to witness Rozz perform live to truly comprehend the phenomenon of his fascinating and commanding presence, complemented by his amazing vocal prowess and astounding stage persona.

::Carpio Brothers (Australia, HK)
:The Carpio Brothers Quartet featuring Bernard Carpio on Saxophone & Chris Carpio on Piano is an action packed ensemble not to be missed. Their current quartet with the support of Seynah
Avlessi on Drums and Jezrael Lucero on Bass, have been guiding audiences on a creative journey on the true meanings of Jazz, old and new. While impressing audiences with their improvisational flare, the Carpio Brothers Quartet maintain the most important fundamentals of music, groove and storytelling.

::Havana Jazz Tumbao (Cuba)
:Founded by Marco Antonio Alonso is a musician, guitarist & producer hailing from Cuba and has been calling Kuala Lumpur home for the past few years. He has toured extensively in the region, sharing his latin jazz music to the locals.
Havana Jazz Tumbao Project is a group that specialize in cuban music and from latin america, the main purpose of the band is to expose more of the cuban culture and their music in Asia and the world.
Marco Alonso & the Havana Jazz Tumbao Project will be on stage to perform his original Latin jazz composition at Publika Jazz 2017.

:Danisha Komari is a Malaysian singer-songwriter with a voice of soul, Dani draws her inspiration from the realms of blues and jazz. Aside from making vintage covers, she has also been writing and performing her own original works.

::The Beat Brothers (Taiwan, Singapore)
:The Beat Brothers (TBB) is much more than a traditional jazz trio. Formed after an accidental jam session in 2014, drummer Fish Huang, guitarist Teriver Cheung and organist/keyboardist Kerong Chok (based in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore respectively!) soon found themselves touring actively in SE Asia performing at different musical venues and festivals together. Their versatility has led them to collaborate with different singers, rappers, and dancers. Individually, the members of TBB have performed with legends like Eddie Gomez, Steve Wilson, John Riley and others.

In 2015, TBB recorded their debut album "Artcore", which features their original music and the use of contemporary production techniques. While their aesthetic is very much informed by jazz, TBB also incorporates the influences of modern Neo-soul & Hiphop, creating music that is truly of our time.

::The Phunk Mob
:The Phunk Mob was formed in mid 2006 and boasts a stellar line-up of Malaysias finest young jazz musicians including Fly on bass, Tok Khon aka TK on the keys, and Wan aka Gigi on guitar.

The Phunk Mob is the brainchild of drummer John Ashley Thomas, whose credits includes working with Grammy award-winning flautist Nestor Torres alongside the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and also the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra He has also toured the prestigous Blue Note circuit in Japan with Motown legends The Three Degrees, and played at numerous jazz and music festivals around the world including Arts Alive! in South Africa, Hua Hin international jazz fest in Thailand, Taichung international jazz fest in Taiwan, Jazz Yatra in India, Mosaic Music Fest in Singapore, Mont Kiara Jazz Fest, Penang Island Jazz Fest, Kuching international jazz fest in Borneo, Kota Kinabalu international jazz fest in Borneo, Chjimes jazz fest in Singapore, Genting international jazz fest and Jarasum International Jazz Fest in South Korea. John is currently touring with Taiwanese superstar Amei in conjunction with her Star World Tour 08/09.

Fly, one of the top bassists around, has performed at the Bangkok Jazz Festival in Thailand, Mosaic Fest n Sun Fest in Singapore, Penang Island Jazz Fest, KL Music Fest, Asian Shymphony Fest in Tokyo and Osaka Japan, Taiwan Jazz Fest, Jarasum Jazz Festival in South Korea, Java Jazz in Indonesia, Sunburst Festival KL, Live n Loud KL,, His credits include working with Nestor Torres together with Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Motown Sensation The Temptations, The Three Degress, 2006 BBC Jazz Award Winner Anita Wardell, guitarist Kazumi Watanabe, Eugene Pao, Jack Lee, Randy Bernsen for P Ramlee The Musical, John Neptune Kaizan, pianist Michael Veerapen, Mr. Gambus Farid Ali, guitarist Jose Thomas, drummer Lewis Pragasam and percussionist Steve Thornton.

TK has played with numerous international and local artistes and is also a prolific producer and arranger. He is an experienced and versatile musician who has played with many stellar musicians, including Motown sensation The Temptation (3 times America Music Award and 2 times Grammy Award winner vocalist Richard Street), Former ladies of The Supremes, The Three Degrees, Anuar Zain, Kris Dayanti, Ning Baizura, Jaclyn Victor and many others. He also arranged and played for P. Ramlee The Musical - 2nd Season. He is currently Musical Director for Donne Radford - The Sound of The Platters.

Guitarist Wan has worked with renowned South Korean singer Nah Youn Sun, Indonesian singer Harvey Malaiholo, Denise Mininfield and numerous local jazz artistes including songstress Noryn Aziz, Aseana Percusion Unit, Mr. Gambus Farid Ali and Andy Peterson. Currently an active sessionist in the local commercial pop scene, Wan has played in numerous TV shows backing a host of Malaysian artists under music director Jenny Chin, Aubrey Suwito, Mac Chew, Ramli MS to name a few..

:The Frankie Sixes bring indie singer-songwriter Reza Salleh on vocals, keyboardist Sharon Chong and bass player Melina William together for a night of swing jazz classics, inspired by Lindy Hop dancers like the great Frankie Manning. Expect to hear some Ella, Billie and good ol' Louis.

:Contemporary pop dup Bona Hop will be debuting a special set of swing jazz covers that'll make you hit the dancefloor. Keyboardist Grace Leong and vocalist Yvonne Chong will be joined by Kae Vin on drums for this special repertoire. Come get your swing on!
